During the year 2006:

  • 190 families were sheltered at HFF and the average size of family was four
  • 463 children lived in the shelter with their parent(s)
  • 7 years old was the average of the children living at HFF
  • 62% of families had an average monthly income of $500 or less 
  • 28% had food stamps only and 14% were under-employed at admission
  • 70% of our families were successfully assisted in finding permanent housing
  • 220 children attended the Dowd Education Center for the after school and summer enrichment programs

What were the reasons these families needed shelter?

  • 55% had loss of Income
  • 22% had Family/Relationship Problems
  • 4% relocated to Columbus
  • 10% were in substandard housing
  • 3% poor money management
  • 5% drinking/drugs
