Mission Statement
To provide shelter, support, stability and nurturing for homeless children and their families as they prepare to acquire and maintain permanent housing
History of The Homeless Families Foundation:
Founded in 1986 by three community women concerned about the increasing number of children and families who were homeless in Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio
Independent, non profit Agency
Shelters each family in a separate apartment unit to keep the family together and minimize trauma to children Began operations with 5 apartments; now maintains 46 shelter units for families with children
Began an after school tutoring program in 1993 and now also operates a full time summer program
The Dowd Education Center is open to children residing in other family shelters and to at-risk children attending Columbus Public Schools .
